Influence of artificial intelligence in the mining industry and its role in the economic development

Abstract :
In the economic resources of the world, the mining industry has a significant share. It is considered the foundation of global economic development. The mining industry has changed considerably in recent decades with the introduction of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). The main objective of this descriptive research is to provide a comprehensive review of the application of AI and ML in the mining industry, with a focus on Mining set up, exploration, extraction and operation stages in the mining industry. The objective of this research is to provide an overview of AI’s capabilities assisting decision-making associated with resource extraction and enhancing mining industry operations. Owing to continuous operational data collection, AI models can also now be applied to the analysis of surface vibrations, micro earthquakes and slides predicting blasts and various failures. Therefore, AI not only helps enhance mining efficiency and economics, but also can reduce life-risks, suggesting the optimal mining approach. Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a significant role in driving economic growth within the mining sector by improving operational efficiency, ensuring greater safety, and promoting sustainable practices. Through automation, advanced data analysis, and predictive maintenance, AI technologies help streamline processes, boost productivity, lower operational costs, and lessen the industry's environmental footprint.
